Our Aims and Our Works
It is our aim that Botswana will become a society in which:
-
Everyone is equal before the law
-
The general population is aware of what human rights are, and understands and supports the rights of whose who are different from themselves
-
The public hears about human rights violations and puts pressure on the government and/or perpetrators to redress the violation
-
Everyone, understanding their rights, is aware of opportunities to address their legal matters
-
Everyone has access to affordable legal assistance
-
Everyone has the confidence and skills to be able to stand up for their rights
In working towards this vision, we advocate for changes, provide information and public education, and offer a paralegal service for those who earn less than the minimum wage (P600 per month). All our work is supported by action-oriented research.
We also have a Children & Human Rights Programme, because our children are Botswana’s future and we believe it is essential both that they develop a true understanding of human rights – and responsibilities – and that their own rights are understood and respected. If our children’s rights are abused, there is little chance that, as adults, they will respect the rights of others.
Further information is provided about our inter-related Programmes:
These Programmes all work on all the human rights issues which are facing Botswana today.
These Programmes are all supported by our Secretariat, which is also responsible for ensuring all Programme monitoring and reporting. |
