DITSHWANELO - FIRST HUMAN RIGHTS FILM FESTIVAL for YOUTH 2008
18-19 October 2008 Thapama Hotel - Francistown
DITSHWANELO –The Botswana Centre for Human Rights, through the support of The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives is pleased to announce its first Human Rights Film Festival for senior secondary students. Whilst the films are particularly relevant for young people, we believe that teachers, education officers, parents and those who work with young people will also find the films of interest. The Festival will be held in Francistown from 18-19 October 2008. The films will be screened at the Thapama Hotel. Admission is free.
The aim of the Festival is to raise awareness about human rights and responsibilities amongst young people. The festival will be opened by the Mayor of Francistown, His Worship, Mr Honest Billy on Saturday 18 October 2008 at 10.30 am.
The themes covered in the films include the genocide in Rwanda; the tensions between Batswana and Zimbabweans living in Botswana; a film about youth culture and HIV/AIDS; the right to water and Hip Hop and the link to human rights.
In order to enable the audience to ask questions, discuss human rights issues and voice their opinions, we intend to follow screenings with expert- led interactive discussions.
