DITSHWANELO HUMAN RIGHTS FILM FESTIVAL 2008

27 MARCH – 3 APRIL 2008 STARDUST CINEMA, GRAND PALM

DITSHWANELO – The Botswana Centre for Human Rights is pleased to announce its 8th Annual Human Rights Film Festival. This year it will be held from 27 March to 3 April 2008, one week before the beginning of the Maitisong Festival. All the films will be screened at Stardust Cinema, The Grand Palm Hotel.

The Film Festival is part of our awareness-raising and education about human rights. Our mission includes the promotion of human rights aimed at developing a human rights culture in Botswana. We are also committed to working towards an educated, informed, moral and tolerant Nation by 2016.

The Festival will be officially opened by Dr. Barbara Reynolds, UNICEF Representative on Thursday 27 March at 7.00 p.m.

The themes covered in the films include Genocide in Africa, Globalisation and Human Rights,  South Africa – Contemporary Challenges,  Cultural Rights and Copyright,  Environmental Rights,  Zimbabwe, Apartheid and Human Rights, Violence Against Women, and the ‘War on Terror’.  There will also be speakers from the Attorney Generals Chambers, Water Utilities Corporation and the Abyssian Coffee Shop.

Tickets cost P25 per day and are on sale at Riverwalk (near the escalators). Tickets will also be on sale at the Stardust Cinema just before the screening of films. The proceeds of the ticket sales will go towards the work of DITSHWANELO.
