DITSHWANELO 9th ANNUAL HUMAN RIGHTS FILM FESTIVAL 2009
THIRD WEEK: 6 – 7 APRIL 2009 UNIVERSITY OF BOTSWANA
The 9th Annual Human Rights Film Festival of DITSHWANELO – The Botswana Centre for Human Rights has been extended to The University of Botswana (UB). On 6 and 7 April 2009, films exploring suicide, the death penalty, the Rwanda genocide and the hip hop music about war in Sudan, will be screened for free at Block 228, Lecture Room 1 at 6:30 p.m.
Week Three marks the continuation of the DITSHWANELO 9th Annual Human Rights Film Festival which was held at Maru a Pula School between 19 March and 3 April 2009. The Festival was officially opened by Minister Skelemani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Thursday 19 March 2009.
The opening film on Monday 6 April 2009, will be Stagnant by Tavonga Gozo, a UB student. It explores the question of suicide. The second film will be At The Death House Door, a film about the death penalty and how a priest who has accompanied over 90 death row inmates to the execution grapples with the fact of the death penalty. On Tuesday 7 April 2009, in recognition of the 15 Anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda, Flowers of Rwanda will be the opening film. The final film of the UB Film Festival will be War Child, a film about the experiences of a Sudanese child soldier, told by him through the use of hip-hop music.
